My Experience with Children with Additional Needs

Having worked closely with children with a range of additional needs, I bring patience, understanding, and adaptability to every session. I know that trust is built over time and that the therapy space needs to feel safe, predictable, and even playful.

I take the time to get to know each child what makes them feel secure, what soothes them, and how they best communicate. Whether that's through words, play, movement, or quiet connection, the pace is always set by them.

Techniques I Use to Help Children Feel Calm and Confident

Every session is child-led and designed to feel positive and empowering. Some of the techniques I may use include:

  • Storytelling Hypnosis

    using metaphor and guided imagery to help children access inner calm and make sense of their feelings in a way that feels safe

  • Progressive Relaxation

    helping children learn to relax their bodies and calm racing thoughts through fun, simple exercises

  • Anchoring Positive Feelings

    teaching children how to connect with a sense of calm or confidence when they need it most

  • Visualisation and Guided Imagery

    imagining safe places, magic tools, or brave characters to help process fears and build resilience

  • Breathing and Grounding Tools

    simple, engaging techniques that children can use at home or school to manage overwhelm

  • Creative and Playful Tools

    drawing, movement, and storytelling can all be woven in, especially for younger children or those who prefer non-verbal expression

A Collaborative, Safe Approach

Parents and carers are always part of the process. After an initial consultation, I will create a tailored plan and discuss how we can support your child together  both in session and at home. Sessions can take place in a comfortable therapy space or online, depending on what feels best for your family.
